Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera make up the Balearic Islands, located off the east coast of mainland Spain in the Mediterranean Sea.

Bands and Music

Wonderbrass

Wonderbrass is a musical combo that draws from musical sources such as the Muppets, along with black jazz from the 1920s and their own music. What’s fun about them is that they know how to dramatise this music, intermingling humorous monologues, jokes, mime and a fast pace throughout the entire show.

S´Estol del Rei en Jaume

The group S´Estol del Rei en Jaume (King James’ Gang) is made up of nine characters inspired by Father Alcover’s tales and the history and tradition of Mallorca.

The Alcúdia Town Hall commissioned Josep Fluxà, regarded as the best Mallorcan artist making figures out of papier-mâché and lightweight materials, to craft the characters.

In the early 1990s, the Alcúdia Town Hall had set itself the goal of reviving the popular traditions of Mallorca and the town’s historical heritage under the Councillor of Culture, Antoni Bibiloni.

These characters, all of them original, symbolise part of our historical past by commemorating passages from our popular literature, while others represent the vices and flaws of human beings portrayed in a funny, satirical way.

S´Estol del Rei en Jaume leaves the Town Hall in a parade accompanied by a group of flageolet players (xeremies), on the first Saturday of October, dovetailing with the town fair.

The characters from the gang have participated in a variety of fairs and events rooted in tradition, including the “Fira d’arrels tradicionals de Manresa” (Fair of Traditional Roots of Manresa), the “Dia de les Illes Balears” (National Day of the Balearic Islands) and the “Diada de Mallorca” (National Day of Mallorca).

Xalandrí

Xalandrí is a group of 6 Minorcans with a deep-rooted interest in the island's traditions. The main reason why the group was formed was to promote the music of the Balearic Islands and try and keep this unique style of music alive so that future generations can enjoy it. The music it plays is mainly by Minorcan composers, with songs filled with sensitivity and feeling, charming melodies always associated with the island's coves, ancient legends, evocative love stories and, needless to say, many songs dedicated to seafaring life. Xalandrí also wishes to conserve the romantic tradition of singing on summer nights, accompanied at all times by its guitars and by friends in the coves of our picturesque island.
